FIVE MINUTES BECOMES SIX
Crumb Edition...
Matthew 5:4 "Blessed are they that mourn, for they shall be comforted."
—Matthew 5:44: "But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them that despitefully use you and persecute you."
—Matthew 14:20 "So they all ate and were satisfied, and the disciples picked up twelve basketfulls of broken pieces that were left over."
I can certainly relate to the "remnants,” the broken pieces left over after Christ fed the five thousand in one of His greatest miracles. I feel like a broken piece being restored.
The starkness of life is sometimes too much, especially in this week.
Christ told us to "love your enemies."
He also told us that all who mourn will be comforted.
Here I was, minding my own business, writing on my weekly Friday Substack piece...when this happened on Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2025.
A mighty young man of God and courageous warrior for Christ, Charlie Kirk, is dead, murdered in front of a crowd as he spoke to them and engaged with them. His wife is left a widow with two very young children to raise. This has the hands of the devil all over it, likely killed by a deranged young person, disaffected, angry, tormented.
How do we get through this madness and overwhelming sorrow without turning inside and giving up?? I know the pull is strong and to give up tugs on many people. "It will not matter what I do,"..."I cannot deal with this."..."I am not going to make a difference, so why do I even try?"
Oh, how I know those sorrowful statements...all leading only to the Slough of Despond, an unpleasant place that I would not recommend. I finally left there, after way too long. Sadness, remorse, overwhelming sorrow, rejection, the list is too long.
As a student of human history, I see the tyranny of darkness and the battle between good and evil over and over and over again. Human beings killed Christ, the very One Who came to love them and heal them and intercede for them. Fortunately for us, He was resurrected from the dead three days after His death and even today, intercedes for us at the right hand of the Father.
God is first and foremost a Father, the Father of all Fathers. He created us to be a family and to have direct relationship with Him. He did not want "Subjects" or slaves, He sought family and relationship with Him.
Life...what a ride it is, for all of us!
God, help us all through this madness...
He did not guarantee we would not have trouble and difficulty. He did send His Son in person, to walk with us through this mess and help us day by day, to keep going, to use the gifts He gave to each of us, to give us hope for the battle. We who repent of sin and ask Christ into our hearts, will go Home to Heaven when we leave this world and have belonging for Eternity with God!
Holy Spirit, Who is my writing coach, has laid out a slow and steady path to help me stabilize my intense emotions and physical-emotional disorder. He gave me about a month ago, a path to walk, of short daily hops of five minute assignments. So far, I am up to 25 days of doing the short hops of simple things I can do in my home, to bring a bit of order and accomplishment. You might laugh, if you are a top dog and a person of great accomplishments. However, for me and for many of us overwhelmed people, small bits become a foundation of large! As my title says this week, as I stabilize into the micro-assignments, I can begin to add a minute to the time. Small things add up.
As an empath, I already feel so deeply, the roiling emotions of others. I am not a surface person. The world is too much sometimes...and yet I cannot strive to be someone I am not. Authenticity is what my core is about.
Can an empath-sensitive soul-temperament-of-warrior- very late bloomer ever find her "niche of belonging" or will I always be an outsider looking in?
The world structure is pretty darn formal and yes, "RAWTHER" pushy.
Huh, can a warrior empath grousing about structure, EVER find a place to belong??? One whose greatest accomplishments are SURVIVAL and RESOURCEFUL TACTICS??
A "type Z" ( my quirky invention of an opposite to type A) looks at a type A with puzzlement. How the heck do they keep up? How did they not crumble under the unrelenting pressure to do more, faster, better?
They are made of sterner stuff than I am.
I'm the crumb- ler...
But...even in the crumbs...AKA "remnants", the goodness of God is manifest! Didn't the Disciples of Christ go and gather 12 baskets of leftover food after Christ fed thousands of people from the miracle of multiplying food from very small seeds offered?? Hmm..
" Crumbs "....and me, "crumbler,"... cannot the crumbs contain sumptuous abundance???
Yes, indeed. Use what you have, He will give you more!
Why did God place so much emphasis on the remnants of the food?? Am I just a “leftover??”
Perhaps because the small has power, yes? Those of us who do not seek the spotlight and who are content with the basics of life, are not driven up the mountains plunked in our path, and one can perhaps...go around that mountain??
The West thrives on the “DO IT” mode and the hard-driving demand. I do not object to work, work is an excellent anchor and foundation. I object to being cemented to work as your value. I have worked all kinds of jobs in my nearly 73 years and every one of them, I learned something from and contributed to.
How have I managed to survive to Elder age, with all the crazy stunts I pulled in younger days? How have I kept afloat in so much financial difficulty, running to survive for so many years?
One thing I know for sure, God does NOT work like one would expect. He operates in His own way and still manages to sit down on the couch next to me and allow me to pour out my heart and to Him and accept my repentances and to seek His wisdom and help each and every day.
With my sheer depth of feeling, which is both a blessing and a curse...I am astonished I am still alive.
Only God...
Why would He care about those of us not living atop the heap? The poor? The weary? The discouraged?? ( all me, by the way,)
God does not think in our box.
He asks us to step into His!
It is much nicer than you think...light. airy, spacious, comfortable, clean and fresh and a wondrous place we can enjoy, with Him!
Not a " holier than thou" but a place of belonging, a place we can find and use the gifts God gave to each and every one of us. God does indeed seek out the "less", the sad, the failures, the anxious, the troubled.
What a FATHER.
I invite you tonight, if you are sorrowful, angry, wandering, wondering…just sit down on the couch and in your spirit, ASK God to help! Tell Him what you are going through. Ask Him to give you comfort and guidance for the next day. Listen as deeply as you can. All is not deposited immediately, this is a step by step process…but you do NOT travel alone when you partner with God. Just be honest and ask for help. He will give it, step by step. He did for me, a wanderer for many years. In fact “Wendy” means “wanderer”…but Elizabeth means “consecrated to God.”
Indeed.

This week my shorter piece is truly eccentric, about pairs of socks! (don't ask!). Funny but true, for someone wired like me. Each Friday evening after I get my longer Substack piece up, I offer the shorter Ko-fi piece on Notes, to share what I am writing.

Well said, Wendy.
Greater is He that is in you, than he that is in the world.
I thought I was the only one that felt things so deeply. It’s been a hard week for me this week. I keep trying to push it off, but it’s still there. Anger sorrow all of the emotions.🔥🔥🔥🙏🙏🙏😢
