Wendy, I am praying your stories afflict many young hearts and minds. I am so blessed that our paths have crossed. I hold you and God's anointing for you in my prayers. oxox
Thank you, Deborah, that is indeed my heartfelt desire, that young people who read my writing to Gen. Z, be positively touched by the support and the exhortation. That is the spirit in which I write it! Much appreciate the prayers!!
Just happen to be in the neighborhood, born 1950. Sex drugs, rock ‘n’ roll, tune in turn on dropout. If I’d known, I was going to live this long, I would have taken better care of myself that’s for sure.
Seems we share a lot of parallels, except for that bisexual thing. I will say that I had quite an advantage over you as I had a praying mother and I was born into a church. Even though I didn’t always serve God I always had a testimony. I would Never push it in my youth but it’s all you had to do was ask if I believed in God, and that put me on a soapbox, and it was hard to shut me up. let me just put this here, anyone Reading this that happens to be one of the above mentioned generations, the greatest advantage you can have in life is making the Lord Jesus, your Savior. In these crazy times, it’s an advantage that everyone truly needs.
Buddy, I agree 100%! I did come to Christ in childhood and had a powerful praying Mother…but she died overnight when I was 13 in 1966 and I was cast adrift. Brother Tom killed in Vietnam in 1968, I was thrown off my road. God, however, had other plans and He is using my wanderings as a source of writing ideas, to share that God does not expect perfection, He just seeks our hearts! I hope you have watched The Chosen, the multi-season crowd-funded show viewed from a free App or on their youtube page. It now has done four seasons, three to go, on the life of Christ, as experienced by his followers and Apostles. Powerful story and powerful presentation of flawed human beings who found Christ and His amazing huge heart for the brokenhearted, (one of my templates, bind up the brokenhearted, from Isaiah 61:1.) Keep on, Buddy, I will too! Thank you so much for taking the time to read my writing! More to come! Wendy
"I simply invite you with your vibrant youth, to look at those who came before you and listen just a bit to what they sorrowfully learned, not just Boomers. It might spare you some useless sorrow of your own."
This is the entire advantage of written language, and we don't use it for that at all anymore!
Hannah, indeed! That is what links all of us writers to the power of the written word. When I used to shelve books in the library a few years ago, I could see the sheer intensity of history alone, the long past and the recent past. We are linked as humans by our shared experiences, both good and not so good. I just write to “get things out” and I am sure that is part of what drives your artistic journey as well. Your drawings are so intense and visceral! Emotion balanced by the logical, this is the balance we all seek. Not at all easy but worth the effort.
Just wow…your honesty and willingness to share is hard to read but so necessary for our young people in this time of their life. Sending up prayers that your letters reach them. And prayers for you in finding peace as you share. Writing is healing… but I believe your greater purpose is following God’s nudge to help others. May He soothe your soul, dear Wendy! Much love and peace. 🙏🙏☺️💕
It is a wonder, if not actual, multiple miracles of grace, that we, and others of our generation (I'm your age) not only survived but were rescued by God! In Acts, the apostle Paul's message often consisted of his life story. I'm heartened to read that you have not discounted or cast aside your story.
Many have a desire to leave a legacy, to have an impact on the succeeding generations. There is a concern of how to preserve that legacy; in our case, our writings. There is the nagging question - "...will I, or my work, make a difference?" I think that there is an answer of peace for these concerns.
The following account refers to kinetic "faith" or "believing", an operation of the holy spirit upon Abel. Every time you write, or communicate as inspired, you are functioning as Abel did. Also, God is no respecter of persons.
Hebrews 11:4
[4] By faith Abel offered to God a more acceptable sacrifice than Cain, through which he was commended as righteous, God commending him by accepting his gifts. And through his faith, though he died, HE STILL SPEAKS.
Wow! So, I can let God take care of the question of the preservation of my works in Christ! But wait, there is more!
God does a bit of writing himself...
Malachi 3:16–18
[16] Then those who feared (respected) the LORD spoke with one another.
The LORD paid attention and heard them, and a book (scroll) of remembrance was written before him of those who feared (respected) the LORD and esteemed his name. (emphasize this!)
[17] “They shall be mine, says the LORD of hosts, in the day when I make up my treasured possession, and I will spare them as a man spares his son who serves him. [18] Then once more you shall see the distinction between the righteous and the wicked, between one who serves God and one who does not serve him. (ESV)
Regardless of the apparent impact of your work, be assured that it is all important. The increase, the impact, is by God. So, take heart and keep up your labor of love - IT IS IMPORTANT!
Keith, humble thanks for your kind response to my newest writing piece. Indeed, I came onto Substack and later to Notes, at the prompting of Holy Spirit, to “encourage the discouraged” and to be a conduit for the love of God to the brokenhearted. Isaiah 61:1 is one of my core life verses. So much sorrow and anger out there and God is tempering my own temperament as I labor here on Substack and Notes. THANK YOU as well, for your wonderful scriptures and for your new series of pieces, which are absolutely on my reading list!! I appreciate the depth you pursue, to the unsearchable riches of God. We need Him now, more than ever. I am not here on Substack to make big bucks, I am here to help others as I am guided and to trust that Papa God will care for me, even as a person of very very modest economic means. I want the wealth of Heaven, as that is Eternal. God richly bless you, Keith and I look forward to reading your own writing pieces very shortly. Blessings on your day, Wendy
